Find out more about our Ukulele Buddies journey

About us

Ukulele Buddies was formed with the goal of bringing together people who want to play ukulele, sing and perform locally across Southport and the surrounding area.

Want to join a fun ukulele group, with a warm and encouraging welcome? Ukulele Buddies could be perfect for you.

We meet at St John Stones Social Club in Ainsdale on a weekly basis on Tuesday evenings between 7.00 – 9.00pm.

We can help beginners get in touch with quality local tutors to help them on their ukulele journey.

Please note that at present we are at full capacity of members, you are welcome to contact us to go on the waiting list to join.

We started playing live shows in November 2019, and regularly play outdoor events, open mic events, care homes and other shows.

The age profile of the group is wide, and our broad taste in music performed reflects this, from traditional songs like ‘The Weller man’ to today’s hits, if it sounds good on ukulele, we’ll play it.

‘It’s been a lifesaver for me. I live alone and had not been learning ukulele long before the lockdown zoom meetings began. They brought me encouragement, laughter and learning friendship and fun and I am so grateful.’

Charity collaboration

For April 2024 to March 2025 we will be supporting Southport Offshore Rescue Trust (Southport lifeboats).

In previous years we have supported:

2023 - Southport Kidney Fund

2022 - Southport Spinal Unit Action Group

We regularly support Morrisons with fundraisers for Derian House, based in Chorley and providing respite and end of life care.

We also support the amazing work done by The Ukulele Project in Southport, Formby and across the UK to help combat lonliness through making the ukulele and ukulele teaching available to residents.

'Playing the ukulele is such a joy, and with just a few minutes coaching you can easily play a song'.
